Well it’s been a week of highs and lows here at North West Digital; we’ve had the EU Referendum (the least said about that the better!), England have been knocked out of the Euros already (that’s football for you!) and the weather has taken a turn for the worse…but that’s only the bad news.

 

On a personal level, the news has been a little rosier, because your favourite Manchester printer, copier and fax specialists have just been awarded Olivetti’s exclusive Best for Colour Dealer accolade, and we’re feeling rather pleased with ourselves about it.  

 

 

NWD have been an authorised dealer for Olivetti for many years now and it’s been a very productive collaboration for all concerned; we couldn’t have achieved everything we have without the continued support of such a loyal partner. As industry leaders in the information technology sector, not to mention major advocates for research and innovation, Olivetti have helped us to develop customised systems for local businesses and turn cutting edge technology into practical every day solutions.

 

So who are Olivetti and what’s this award all about?

 

Who Are Olivetti?

 

Olivetti have been around for a long time, so it’s hardly surprising that they’re at the forefront of their industry.

 

According to Olivetti folklore, it all began more than a century ago with the company’s founder, Camillo Olivetti, who was apparently so impressed by his first introduction to a mechanical typewriter whilst on a trip to the USA that, immediately following his return home, he set to work to design his own. Hence, in 1908, in the sleepy Italian town of Ivrea, in the province of Turin, Camillo Olivetti founded a typewriter manufacturing company that would go on to be one of the world’s most recognised brand names more than 100 years later.

 

In 1911, Olivetti launched the first Italian typewriter and, over the coming decades the business boomed, adding new models to its range of modern typewriters and opening stores all over Europe. Together with his son, Adriano, Camillo Olivetti took the business from strength to strength, opening the first advertising office in 1928 and their first overseas production plant in in 1930. By the 1940s, Olivetti had branched out, introducing the world’s first portable typewriter, followed by the ‘Divisumma’ electric calculator, and by the 1950s they’d invented Italy’s very first electronic computer, with the world’s first professional desktop computer following eventually. By the 1980s, Olivetti were officially the biggest manufacturer of office machines in Europe and trading all over the globe.

 

In August 2003, Olivetti became part of the Telecom Italia group and began working as a partner to digital networking companies all around the world, helping to push the industry ever onwards and implement real solutions for every type of business.

 

What Do Olivetti Do Now?

 

It’s undeniable that Olivetti have come a long way from that first typewriter; these days, they invent and manufacture pretty much every electronic business solution you can imagine. From graphometric tablets (that little etch-a-sketch contraption you sign when your parcels are delivered) to interactive multimedia whiteboards to cloud based platforms for digital educational environments; chances are, if your business needs it, Olivetti make it.

What Have North West Digital Been Awarded?

 

After being an authorised Olivetti dealer for many years now, NWD are absolutely ecstatic that we’ve now been awarded with one of Olivetti’s highest accolades, the Best for Colour Dealer Program. According to Olivetti’s own press release;

 

“North West Digital has been awarded Olivetti’s exclusive “Best for Colour” Dealer accolade, which entitles them to join a European-wide network of selected specialists who are qualified, at the highest level, to provide the best solutions and service to users of Olivetti’s high performance colour print and multi-functional product range.”

 

It’s a hard earned honour that we’ve put a lot of effort into achieving, having to meet several stringent criteria that include;

 

• Providing a showroom facility that customers can visit to see the full demonstrations of the Olivetti range, including all colour products
• Committing to the on-going improvement of the levels of colour knowledge of all our staff
• Setting a standard for offering the best advice and guidance to customers that endeavours to save the customer time, effort and money in the long-term
• Demonstrating that our technicians have attended and passed technical service training courses, run by Olivetti, for the entire range of Olivetti products, from the low end colour MFPs right the way through to the high volume solutions.

 

And having first been invited by Olivetti to receive this award, it’s vitally important that we now continue to meet the high standards set by this award and continue to demonstrate our dedication to the ongoing development of our technicians.
